Carefree neighborhoods put real work into wildfire preparedness, but smoke, soot and firefighting water can still damage a home. DRR covers the openings, cleans each material with IICRC S700 methods, removes odor at its source and rebuilds what the fire took.

Fire and smoke restoration around Carefree's Firewise neighborhoods

Fire protection inside Carefree's town limits is provided under contract by the Rural Metro Fire Department, and there has been no subscription fee since 1 January 2007. The Town recognizes Carefree Foothills, Carefree Mountain Estates and Doublegate for their wildfire mitigation work, and Carefree Mountain Estates logged nearly 3,000 hours of fire-safety work in 2025. Even with that preparation, a brush fire nearby or a fire inside the house leaves soot and odor that need a professional cleaning plan.

Fire and smoke risks Carefree homeowners plan for

Firewise neighborhoods

Carefree Foothills, Carefree Mountain Estates and Doublegate are recognized by the Town as Firewise sites. Reducing fuel around a home lowers the risk to the structure, but ash and smoke can still get inside through vents and gaps.

The Cave Creek Complex Fire

In 2005 the Cave Creek Complex Fire burned through the mountains northeast of Phoenix; by 29 June federal fire officials estimated it at about 140,000 acres. The Arizona Republic calls it the third-largest fire in recorded Arizona history.

Homes on the hillside

On and around Black Mountain, many homes are built on sloping ground. Heat and smoke rise, so upper rooms, lofts and attic spaces often hold more residue than the room where a fire started, and we clean from the top down.

Rural Metro and Protection Class

Rural Metro Fire Department provides fire protection inside town limits under contract with the Town. The Town's fire page says the Town is in Protection Class 3 or 9, and a home rates Class 3 if it is within 5 miles of the fire station and/or 1,000 feet of a hydrant; insurers use the rating when pricing policies.

Electrical and dryer fires

Cooking, wiring and dryer-vent fires each leave a different residue. We identify which one we're dealing with before choosing cleaning products, because the wrong product can set a stain.

Contents and documentation

Furniture, clothing, art and electronics are photographed and listed before they're cleaned or packed out. Your adjuster gets a contents record that matches what was in the home.

FAQ

Fire damage restoration Carefree — FAQ

Our neighborhood is Firewise. Could we still need smoke cleanup after a nearby fire?

Yes. Firewise work lowers the risk to structures, but fine ash and smoke can still come in through vents, chimneys and gaps around doors. If you smell smoke inside or see ash on surfaces, have it assessed before running the HVAC.

Who fights fires in Carefree?

The Town contracts with the Rural Metro Fire Department, Inc. for fire protection within town limits, with no subscription fee since January 1, 2007. When the fire crew turns the property over, call us to secure it and start the cleanup.

Can smoke be cleaned off stone and natural wood?

Often, yes. Porous stone and unsealed wood hold soot and odor, so we test a small area first and choose dry or wet cleaning methods to suit the surface.

Do you rebuild after the cleanup?

Yes. DRR is a licensed Arizona contractor (AZ ROC #349012), so cleaning, repairs and reconstruction can be handled under one contractor.

Do you work with my insurance company?

Yes. DRR has worked claims with State Farm, Farmers, Allstate, USAA, Liberty Mutual, American Family and others across the Phoenix metro, and documents fire losses the way adjusters need them.
