McDowell Mountain Regional Park lies just north of Fountain Hills, and parts of it burned in 2020 and 2024. Whether the smoke came from a wildfire or from your own kitchen, DRR secures the home, cleans with IICRC S700 methods, removes the odor at its source and carries the job through to repairs.
Fire and smoke restoration next to McDowell Mountain Regional Park
Fountain Hills runs its own fire department from two stations: Station 1 at 16426 E Palisades Boulevard and Station 2 at 16821 E Saguaro Boulevard. In January 2026 the Town designated three Battalion Chiefs, a command structure that supports its application for Automatic Aid. The median home here was built in 1994 and about one in eight is single-family attached (US Census ACS); where homes share walls or attics, smoke can move between them, so we check both sides.

Fire and smoke risks in Fountain Hills
Wildfire next door
On 20 August 2020, a lightning strike from a dry monsoon storm started a wildfire in McDowell Mountain Park about 1.5 miles from the town's north border, and it burned 615 acres. Smoke and ash from a fire like that can settle in homes the flames never reach.
The 2024 McDowell Fire
In August 2024 the McDowell Fire burned 90 acres in the park, and Fountain Hills Fire said no structures were threatened. Smoke odor and fine ash can still find their way indoors through vents and attic openings.
Defensible space
The Town defines defensible space as a 30-foot area around a structure where fuels and vegetation are cleared or reduced to slow a wildfire. If a fire does come close, that zone is where we start, checking eaves, vents and exterior finishes for heat and smoke damage.
Attached homes
About 13% of Fountain Hills homes are single-family attached. A fire in one can push smoke into the next through shared attics and wall cavities, so we assess every affected unit and keep separate records for each owner's claim.
Fires that start indoors
Kitchen, electrical and dryer fires produce different kinds of soot, from greasy film to dry powder. We identify the type first, because the wrong cleaner can drive it deeper into paint and fabric.
Contents and claim file
Belongings are photographed, listed and sorted before cleaning or pack-out. The inventory goes to your adjuster with the rest of the file.
Step by Step
Our Fountain Hills Fire Damage Response Process
Board-up & stabilization
Openings in roofs, windows and doors are secured to protect the structure from weather, entry and further loss.
Soot & smoke assessment
Soot type and smoke migration are identified room by room — dry, wet and protein residues each need a different cleaning method.
Structural cleaning
HEPA vacuuming, dry-chemical sponging and wet cleaning matched to each surface, working top to bottom.
Odor removal
Odor sources are removed first, then treated with methods matched to the material and the occupancy of the home.
Contents & rebuild
Contents are inventoried, and reconstruction is handled under one contractor, AZ ROC #349012.
